For the past fourteen years, International Sex Day has been celebrated around the world on June 7. How do you think we should celebrate this day?
Zbigniew Lew-Starowicz: In various ways. I think it should be marked with sex, but so that it doesn’t feel forced—let’s treat it more as playful sex: enjoyable, but more relaxed than usual. A sexual celebration in a cheerful, lighthearted mood, not sex for sex’s sake. A day that absolutely must be celebrated. Joyful, pleasurable sex.
Please tell me, what purpose could a day like Sex Day serve?
ZLS: For some, it will be a reminder that such a thing even exists; for others, it will be just another holiday to fill the year. Basically, for me, it’s a bit like filling the year with such dates, but it does serve as a reminder of something. I believe that International Sex Day validates this aspect of life—it’s not about prudishly burying one’s head in the sand as if sex didn’t exist. That’s why I accept this holiday.
Finally, a question—how do you plan to spend this day, Professor?
ZLS: As for me, I gave a few interviews today on the topic of sex, I’ll still be working on sex-related matters, and as for personal matters, it all depends on the mood, and let’s always remember that it takes two to tango (laughter). That’s how it will be.
